The past month in Art we have had a lot of free time to work on whatever we would like which was really fun and helped me learn build skills in things I hadn't tried before. I really enjoyed this because I got to explore free hand drawing. One thing this helped me with was taking risks. Although I didn't end up happy with most of the things I drew (hence the no pictures of them), I still really enjoyed exploring shading and finding shadows. After this we started a small project where we drew anything under a different category each day. These categories included Nature, Screws and bolts, industrial, on and off and things that turn. This was a simple activity and something we didn't spend a lot of time on which was very interesting and fun because it allowed me to mess around and learn to make mistakes. Because I had never learned the basics, this was very fun for me. Lastly, before break, we did a small activity because our class was very small. We all made candles out of a cool beeswax material. The colors were very cool and it was really fun to watch them burn. I've definitely learned a lot in this class the past couple months and really enjoyed exploring.

Over the last month a lot has gone on in the the art room. We mainly focused on learning and practicing embroidery. We all made an embroidery sampler to practice and then each chose different projects. I used the hoop and made a flower using different colors. It was a little hard to get the embroidery floss through the needle but after a couple times and solving problems by using a tool to help, I got the hang of it. I ended up making it into a small pillow. It was very interesting to do this especially after being inspired by Faith Ringgold. I remember always reading her book when I was younger. It was very cool to be able to do something inspired by her because I’ve always loved her book. I made a second pillow for valentines day which I was then able to reflect on my first piece and build my skills and get better. After working with embroidery, I made a small painting just for fun. I thought it would be cool to do something simple so I painted the background and then drew and simple eye with some abstract colors.
The past couple months in art have been a little more of a challenge for me. While I love having freedom to work on my own projects and choose my own ideas to create fun things, I have a hard time staying with a certain project because I easily get discouraged by my own work. This being said, it has helped me develop more skill in creating original art and taking risks. Sometimes when starting a project I had to take a risk and try something new even if I didn’t think I could do it. I worked on a bunch of small projects around Christmas time that were fun for me and allowed me to be creative. The project we worked on as a class called blackout poetry was fun to get more cool ideas. I also thought the stamp project was very cool and allowed everyone to be creative. It was fun to communicate with everyone to get ideas and feedback to further my work. Although a challenge, the past couple months were very fun.
In the past month, there has been a lot of freedom in what we can do. We started off with drawing flowers. I didn’t go into much detail with my flowers but it was a good basic assignment to develop skill and be creative. With this assignment we used flowers from the classroom and were supposed to draw them with colored pencils. While it was more simple, it was still very interesting. The second assignment we had was a portrait. I chose to draw a portrait of my dad. It was the first portrait i have ever drawn so it was a big challenge but I also learned a lot. It was a good risk and although I haven’t finished it, I’m proud of what i’ve accomplished so far. This piece helped me develop a lot of skill and specifically use proportions to get every part right. It took a while but finding the right spot and aligning for everything made it come out a lot better and helped me develop this skill. For the rest of the month we were able to work on anything we wanted. I worked on a couple different things and just messed around with trying new things. I’m hoping to continue with them as they help me develop skills and it’s fun to be able to have more freedom with art. I hear the busy streets of the city, cars speeding past, horns beeping, people yelling. I smell fresh grilled food mixed with cigarette smoke. I love watching the streets as everyone tries to rush through their down. Everyone trying to make their way through mobs of people. I have seen the most interesting people in the city. Everyone with a different lifestyle and plan. I want to see humanity, people being kind to one another. I feel excited and happy for what this day will bring. Name Jonathan Vondrehle : Birthday-February 29th Job-businessman Hobbies-sports, reading. What are you doing today?I have a meeting today at noon but i plan to go for a run after Where are you? I am sitting in my office preparing for my meeting Who is with you?I am alone in my office but outside the door everyone is working hard and running around LANDSCAPE I hear the wind and the rush of leaves. The trees are swaying and you can hear the birds chirping with the occasional scurry in the grass of a nearby squirrel. I smell the fresh scent of flowers. I need to stay here forever and keep this image in my head forever. I am going to come back here everyday. I feel the wind against my face and the soft grass against my legs. I want to live here and forever by as happy as i am here. Dear Friend I am writing to you from Landscape painting P3. I’ve never been happier in my life. This place is like heaven and the view never gets old. You must come visit but i promise you will not want to leave. There are so many different types of flowers, all beautiful and with an array of colors. You see so many animals and everything is beautiful. Everywhere you look you fall in love and there is never a dull moment. I hope you’re able to come soon. For the meantime this is just a glimpse of what you’re missing out on. -Elizabeth Taking off the from the video we watched in class about the Guerilla Girls, we all wrote down complaints we had and posted them on our wall. From their, we each chose one to express in a complaint piece of art. Each student created an original piece of art by finding a way to represent their complaint in their art. We had a reflection day which allowed everyone to collaborate and get feedback on what they can change or add. My complaint was “kindness fading.” I expressed this in art by showing a fading heart as a speech bubble from a person. I found this project very interesting and eye-opening to see what everyone had complaints about. It was also very cool to see people have similar complaints as mine. More recently we did a piece from a video about David Brook with the theme of “Never seen, never will.” I chose to go along the lines of an “underground atlantis” It was very different to draw not going off of anything I know because it is made up. Doing this along with it being my first time using ink and pen was a very fun and new experience for me. I loved working with ink and enjoyed making this piece a lot especially with it having so many firsts for me. Although i wasn’t there for critique day, I got some good feedback in how to improve in the future and collaborated with someone on how to improve the realness of mermaid sketches. I have already learned so much and I’m very excited to continue to learn more and explore more in the art world.
This is my first year of taking Art class but I am starting in Art level 2. Although this may be more of a challenge for me the first couple of days has gotten me excited for the upcoming year and where this class will take me. The very first day we had a task party. This gave me a new perspective on how different people can take the same tasks and make such different things. The second day I was very inspired by all of the AP student’s artwork from the summer. It showed me what i will maybe be able to accomplish someday with my artwork. Our first project was the sketch. We all got a small square of a big image and had to recreate it on a slightly bigger sheet of paper. I had never done something like that and at the end we all put our separate pieces together to make a big sketch. Everyones piece looked so different apart and when together, everything looked like it fit perfectly. It was amazing to see what everyone could do and how it all came together so well. I learned a lot about different values of shading. We had to work together with everyone, especially with the people right around. I'm very excited to see whee this year will take me with art. |
